Correct Tyre Pressure for Perth Drivers
Wrong tyre pressure is the #1 cause of premature tyre wear we see in the workshop. Here is the guide.
How to find your correct pressure
Look on the placard inside the driver's door jamb or the inside of the fuel-cap flap. NOT the number written on the tyre — that is the maximum the tyre can safely hold, not what your car needs.
Typical numbers:
- Small cars (Yaris, Corolla, i30): 32-34 psi
- Mid-size sedans/SUVs (Camry, CX-5, RAV4): 34-36 psi
- Utes (Hilux, Ranger, BT-50): 34-36 psi front / 38-44 psi rear (loaded)
- 4WDs (Prado, LandCruiser, Patrol): 36-40 psi
Check pressures cold
Tyres heat up after 10 km of driving and pressure rises 3-5 psi. Always check when cold (sat for 3+ hours) for an accurate reading.
When to lower pressures
- Beach driving (soft sand): drop to 16-20 psi for floatation
- Corrugated gravel: drop to 28-30 psi for comfort and grip
- Heavy load or towing: INCREASE rear by 4-6 psi
Remember to re-inflate before highway driving — soft tyres at 100 km/h overheat and can blow out.
Free pressure check
Drop in any time — we will check and adjust all 4 tyres free of charge. Always good to do before a long road trip up north or down south.
