Cheap Tyres in Perth: What's a Genuine Deal vs What to Avoid

Cheap Tyres in Perth: Genuine Deal or Trap?

We sell cheap tyres every day. We also see customers come in furious because the "$79 tyre" they bought elsewhere turned out to be 4 years old and wore out in 8 months.

Here's how to tell the difference.

What makes a tyre genuinely cheap

  • Newer or value brands with real factories: Maxxis, Linglong, Kumho, Westlake, Sailun. These cost less than Michelin because of branding and R&D — not because they're unsafe.
  • Direct importers (like us) who skip the big-chain markup.
  • End-of-line sizes where the manufacturer is clearing a discontinued pattern.

What to actually check before paying

1. DOT date code

Last 4 digits of the DOT stamp. 3823 = 38th week of 2023. Anything more than 2–3 years old has lost shelf life. Walk away.

2. Total drive-away price

Ask for: tyre + fitting + balancing + new valves + old tyre disposal + GST. Some shops advertise $79 then add $40 of fees per wheel.

3. Warranty

A real tyre — even a budget one — should come with a manufacturer defect warranty. If the shop won't put it in writing, that's a flag.

4. Speed and load rating match your placard

Never drop below what's on the door jamb.
